Xbox COO disputes unfair exit claims after sudden firing

Helen Chiang, Xbox’s former chief operating officer, departed Microsoft unexpectedly after serving only six months in the position, raising speculation about the reasons behind her exit. In a LinkedIn message, she confirmed the termination but denied any wrongdoing, stating that claims of policy breaches or misconduct were “not accurate.” Chiang, who had worked at Microsoft for 21 years, rejected suggestions that she had shared confidential information or joined a rival company, framing her departure as outside her influence.

She expressed deep loyalty to Xbox in her post, writing, “You don’t spend two decades somewhere without developing a deep loyalty to the people, teams, and businesses you’ve helped build,” says Chiang. Chiang also dismissed allegations of discrimination, harassment, or fraud, insisting her professional record and performance remained unblemished. Former colleagues described her as widely admired within Xbox, according to earlier accounts.

Her strongest remarks addressed perceived inconsistencies in how decisions were made. She wrote, “I believe in fairness, accountability, and holding ourselves to the standards we expect of others. Those standards only mean something when they’re applied consistently. I have serious concerns about how they were applied in my case, and I believe those concerns deserve to be taken seriously.” Chiang added that her departure was not the outcome she had envisioned for her time at Xbox, noting that the full story had not yet been disclosed.
