Snap Launches AI Assistant for AR Glasses, Apps

Snap is launching a standalone AI assistant called Specs Intelligence, designed to work with its new AR glasses and as a mobile and desktop app. Unlike its social media competitors, Snap has taken a cautious approach to AI, integrating generative features into Snapchat without making it a central focus.

Specs Intelligence is an “anticipatory AI service” that learns user goals, priorities, and routines by connecting to various apps and tools. It operates independently from Snapchat, focusing on productivity by providing reminders, travel plans, and task organization. For AR glasses users, it displays information directly in their field of view, activated by the voice command “Hey Specs”.

The assistant relies on external account connections, such as Google, to offer personalized insights. For example, it can suggest questions to prepare for a meeting or show travel details before a trip. Information is organized into “corners” based on context, keeping work and personal tasks separate.

Snap addresses privacy concerns by ensuring that Specs Intelligence data will not be used to train AI models or serve ads. Additionally, Snap personnel cannot access personal content used with the service.

A limited version is now available in the US through the Specs app on iOS, enabling users to connect Google accounts for time-management insights. The full early-access version, accessible only via the Specs Mac app, will be invite-only, with a waitlist open for sign-ups.
